 Compooter
So when I try to boot my computer up, nothing really happens. The lights come on; and the fans whirr to life, but the monitor stays black/on standby mode. My video card fan sits there and runs at max speed like no tomorrow. This used to stop after a few seconds, but now it does it all the time. I tried putting my dads card in with no luck. There are no beeps from the motherboard to indicate anything. My mouse and keyboard do not light up, nor will the caps/num lock lights respond. The monitor worked fine on another computer.
So... It's not my monitor or video card. I want to say it's a motherboard problem, but when I try to power up the computer it gets very touchy. Hold the power button too long (2 sec), and it immediately shuts down. Too little (.5 sec), and it fails to start up. I don't remember it bein like this before.
Opinions? Advice?
Thanks.

Sol wrote: 90% sure thats a motherboard issue Me too. Either that, or a PSU issue. Since the PSU is easier to take out than the motherboard, try hooking that up to another computer. If that computer works, it's your mobo.

 Re: Compooter
sounds like the MB. but try checking the ram for potential bleeding. that can fuck with alot of different things. one more thing is resetting the cmos/bios by switching the pins on the MB, and restarting the computer then switching them back.

 Re: Compooter
I Cant remember what its called,
But on the motherboard there are 3 pins with a brackets attachting 2 and one sitting alone.
Look on the grid of the MB and look for anything called CMOS RESET, or CMOS PINS
The pins are set up in a 1-2-3 order and are very small pins.
The bracket connects the 1-2 pin.
Take the bracket off and connect it to the 2-3 pin.
Start up the computer.
It should go through a boot sequence then hold before OS and say "CMOS Has Been Reset" or somthing along those lines.
Then Computer should turn off.
After that, go back to the CMOS pins, and take the bracket off the 2-3 pin and put it back on the 1-2 pin.
Start your computer up once again, and bios will all be reset, and back to default setings.
PLEASE NOTE!
All MB's are a little dfferent, and all BIOS setups and versions are a little different. So make sure you read all content available to you before trying this.
After you have tried this, if you still have the same problem, then my suggestion is check the RAM for bleeding, then the Processor.
After that, if the problem persists, replace the MB.

 Re: Compooter
Just a little update on where everything stands atm.
I'm having it looked at and should have the money to fix whatever problem it turns out to be (probably mb) by mid spring break. Give me time to fix it etc and were looking at around end of march for me to be up and running again as long as nothing else pops up

 Re: Compooter
I'm actually having a similar issue. When I start my computer up it'll go to the windows screen and stay black. I used to be able to just hit my reset button and it would work the next time. Now my cpu wont start unless its in safe mode. I think my problem lies within my start up with my OS but I'm going to be reformating and if the problem continues then it'll be my MB.

 Re: Compooter
Would it be possible for a processor to be incompatible with a type of ram? Or is it all dependant on the motherboard?
